HARRISBURG – Sen. Michele Brooks (R-50) today announced more than $392,000 in federal Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside (TASA) funds to support a “Safe Routes to Schools” project, also known as the Route 18 Sidewalk Project in the City of Hermitage.
“Adding this vital new sidewalk access is going to safely increase opportunities for our school kids to participate in the many activities found at the Shenango Valley YMCA. These include indoor and outdoor youth recreation programs, indoor basketball, fitness/strength training, outdoor soccer, baseball, and football,” Brooks said. “This project will provide a critical component to ensure a safe connection for not only students, but also adults that will use the pathway to this very popular facility.”
The project will provide a safe connection for pedestrians between the Hermitage School District campus and the Shenango Valley YMCA complex through the installation of 1,100 feet of sidewalk along Route 18 from the intersection of Highland Road to the existing sidewalk north of the YMCA property.
Funding for the project is being provided through the Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside program.
