Brooks Announces $7.5 Million Awarded for Mercer County Improvement Projects

HARRISBURG – Sen. Michele Brooks (R-50) today announced $7.5 million for improvement projects in Mercer County. The funding is being awarded through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP).

“Combined, these projects will serve to enhance and improve economic development, job growth, recreational opportunities and investment in our academic future in Mercer County,” Brooks said. “I greatly appreciated the chance to work with these applicants, as the funding awarded to these projects is an important development for our area, not only for today, but for the next generation.”

Lindy Paving Inc. was awarded $6 million to construct a new energy efficient asphalt plant in Mercer County. Lindy Paving currently operates 12 asphalt plants in western Pennsylvania, employing more than 1000 full-time employees with family-sustaining wages. This plant project will include advanced burners, heat recovery systems and efficient mixing equipment.

“We are so thankful to Sen. Brooks and Gov. Josh Shapiro for their vision and leadership in helping us secure this vital funding,” said Vince Tutino, president of Lindy Paving, Inc. “This state-of-the-art facility will feature energy-efficient technologies which will utilize more recycled paving materials and will reduce our energy consumption by forty percent – all while creating local jobs. This news is good for the environment, good for the economy and good for Mercer County.”

In addition to the energy efficient asphalt plant, two other major projects in Mercer County received funding.

Thiel College received $250,000 to renovate and expand the Thiel College Academic Center. This project will renovate more than 11,000 square feet of existing space and add 6,200 square feet of new space.

The City Hermitage was awarded $1.25 million for the construction of nine pickleball courts and the expansion of parking and pedestrian accessibility at the Hermitage Athletic Complex. It will also provide for expanded parking and pedestrian accessibility, while addressing parking needs associated with the increased use of the complex.

The RACP is a Commonwealth grant program administered by the Office of the Budget for the design, acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects.
