HARRISBURG – Sen. Michele Brooks (R-50) today announced the approval of a $1.1 million grant from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) to the Jamestown Municipal Authority. The funding will support the rehabilitation of the authority’s aging sanitary sewer collection system, ensuring continued service and improved infrastructure health for the community.
“Securing this grant is a significant step toward enhancing our local infrastructure,” said Brooks. “By addressing the critical needs of our wastewater system, we are investing in the health and well-being of our residents and supporting the sustainability of our community.”
The Jamestown Municipal Authority’s wastewater collection and conveyance system, originally constructed in the 1950s and 1960s using cement pipes, has reached the end of its useful life. To remediate the issue, the project will involve lining approximately 14,500 feet of the existing system with cured-in-place pipe, extending the lifespan of the pipes by approximately six years. Isolated spot repairs will also be conducted where necessary.
Lining the deteriorating cement pipes will ensure the continued use and longevity of the wastewater system. The project will support a small, rural municipality by correcting infiltration and inflow issues within the existing wastewater collection and conveyance system.
PENNVEST is an independent state agency that provides financial assistance for sewer, storm water and drinking water projects in communities across the commonwealth.
