Sen. Brooks Announces Six State Grants for Crawford and Mercer County Parks and Trails
Sen. Michele Brooks announced the awarding of six grants from the
Department of Conservation and National Resources to help improve parks,
trails and watersheds in Crawford and Mercer Counties.
“Our parks are an important asset for our families and communities. This
investment will open up these scenic destination points to more people of
all ages, interests and abilities,” Sen. Brooks said. “In many cases, these
improvements represent the culmination of years of planning and hard work by
so many local volunteers, township supervisors, council members, planning
offices, donors, Eagle Scouts, park visitors, and many others. It is great
to see that their vision will soon be turned into reality.”
These grants include:
- $40,200 for Jodi’s Trail in Canal Park, Spring Township to make it
compliant with the federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The
grant, requested through the Conneaut Valley Economic and Industrial
Development Authority (CVEIDA), will fund the construction of picnic
areas and exercise stations, the installation of interpretive signage,
and the paving of walkways to afford easier access for people with
disabilities. The project will advance the goal of creating a six-mile
loop between the communities of Conneautville and Springboro.
- A $106,500 grant to help complete the replacement and rehabilitation
of Crawford County’s HP Way Park and to make park routes accessible to
those with disabilities. The grant, submitted by the city of Meadville,
will build upon the installation of new play equipment, which tapped
into funds from the Meadville Area Water Authority. The grant will allow
for the completion of Phase 2, which includes the construction of a
pavilion with picnic tables, a sports court, walking areas, and a
parking lot. HP Way Park is the only city park serving the northeast
region of the city of Meadville.
- A $70,000 grant to the Conneaut Lake-French Creek Valley Conservancy
to engage stakeholders and to conduct and promote educational
programming throughout the French Creek Watershed.
- An $88,500 grant to Titusville, as requested by the Titusville
Community Development Agencies, to develop Queen City Trail, to include
the construction of three-quarters of a mile of trail along South Martin
Street from Fleming Park to East Mechanic Street, and to allow for
handicapped access, signage and related site improvements.
- $24,400 to construct and maintain about 100 miles of snowmobile
trails of the Pymatuning Trail Blazers Snowmobile Club, spanning
Crawford and Mercer Counties.
- A $100,000 grant to Mercer Borough in Mercer County to further
develop Brandy Springs Park, which will include providing accessibility
to those with disabilities, the construction of a Spray Park, the
installation of filtration and recirculation systems, the posting of
project signage and related site improvements.
“Our parks are rich with history, beauty and recreational opportunities
for all ages. Not only do our local families benefit from these community
assets, they also attract visitors and boost local tourism,” Sen. Brooks
said.
